What's tanning ?

To get a nice tan while maintaining your skin and health, it is important to understand how the tan works. The tanning process is not very well known and understood by everyone. But then, what is it? It is a natural system put in place by the body to help the skin to protect itself from the sun. UVA and UVB are ultraviolet rays naturally produced by the sun that attack the skin. UVB is the most harmful and can cause irreversible damage such as aging of the skin, the appearance of wrinkles and increased risk of cancer. To counter this, the skin increases its production of melanin in the deep cells of the skin to help block the UVB to protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Melanin is a naturally occurring pigment in the body that causes pigmentation of the skin, hair and eyes. As you will have understood, tanning is only a tool to protect oneself from the sun, so it is not enough for itself. It is important to be careful and adopt good habits to avoid damaging your skin and endangering your health.

Prepare and take care of your skin

After a long time without exposure, your body is no longer used to receiving as much ultraviolet light. If you want to get a nice tan, durable and without attacking your skin, you must first prepare it and it will mainly pass through your beauty routine.

Food

To prepare your tan from the inside, you can bet on food. There are many foods that help and speed up the tanning process. Carrots, tomatoes, melon, peppers and many other yellow and orange foods rich in beta-carotene. This pigment stimulates the production of melanin which gives your skin the tanned color. Raw, cooked, in salad or pan, abuse fruits and orange vegetables!

Scrub

Use scrubs quite regularly before putting yourself in the sun. With their micro-beads, scrubs (or exfoliants) can remove dead and damaged skin cells. They help to keep a nice uniform tan longer. Do not hesitate to erase your body and your face 1 to 2 times a week maximum not to damage your skin. There are many industrial exfoliants or homemade, it's up to you to find the one that suits you. Without scrub, your tan will be dull and will not last!

Hydration

Hydration is an essential beauty and well-being gesture as important for tanning as for health. An adult needs to drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day, and even more during hot weather. Remember to drink enough water before, during and after sun exposure to avoid dehydration. Regarding your skin, it will probably be dry after exposure to the sun and heat. Moisturizing creams and lotions help nourish and hydrate your skin to make it softer and prevent the growth of dead skin cells. Apply a cream to your face and body daily after your shower for a perfect tan!

Avoid exposure during the hours when the sun is strongest: between noon and 16 hours. No need to spend hours in the sun to get a nice caramel skin, just a few minutes a day. Sunscreen

As mentioned before, it is essential and obligatory to protect your skin against the UV rays of the sun. Even if you are not used to it, apply protection before sun exposure to avoid sunburn or more serious diseases such as skin cancer. It is important to know that no sun protection protects 100% but the higher the index, the stronger the protection. Do not forget to put your sunscreen every two hours or every bathing. In mist, cream or lotion you will necessarily find the sunscreen that suits you and you like.
